Synopsis

After her family loses its fortune, Marin needs a way to support herself and her mother. She secures work assisting Gerald von Vines, a blind duke who resists being helped. Marin hopes to earn enough to rebuild an ordinary life, but a small act of kindness leads Gerald to propose an engagement she never planned for. Living beside him brings new complications: she must navigate his stubborn independence while deciding what their increasingly personal arrangement means to her.

Story profile
★ My Take

The appeal lies in the small shifts between Marin and Gerald: she approaches his sharp edges with patience, and their awkward arrangement gradually feels more intimate. Ire’s expressive art gives their quieter exchanges room to land. The proposal comes suddenly, and Gerald’s stubbornness can test your patience, but their developing trust makes the early episodes easy to follow.

✓ Why you'd like it

Marin has a practical reason to stay at the estate, so her growing closeness with Gerald feels grounded in daily contact. Their conversations and his reluctant reliance on her create a softer kind of romantic tension than a dramatic courtship would.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

Gerald can be brusque and resistant to assistance, especially early on. Readers looking for an immediately considerate love interest or a fast moving courtship may find the couple’s first steps frustrating.
