Synopsis

Baek Hayul awakens as Duchess Aila Rinehart inside a novel she knows, married to a duke whose future rebellion will bring disaster to his household. Determined to survive, she asks Claude for a divorce. His refusal leads to a bargain: he has one month to persuade her to stay. Yet the affectionate man trying to court her does not match the doomed villain she expected, complicating both her escape plan and her confidence in the story’s future.

Story profile
★ My Take

Claude’s open affection gives this marriage romance an appealingly gentle center. The couple’s willingness to share concerns and work together becomes more satisfying than the divorce countdown itself. The surrounding fantasy intrigue is less compelling, however, and Aila’s prolonged reliance on her expectations of the novel can make the plot feel slower than the relationship deserves.

✓ Why you'd like it

The rewarding moments come when suspicion gives way to practical teamwork. Instead of making every discovery another private misunderstanding, the story lets conversations move the relationship forward. That makes Claude’s earnest courtship feel easier to settle into than the premise initially suggests.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

The divorce hook does not promise a lasting separation. Aila’s resistance continues after Claude has repeatedly shown affection, and the larger conspiracy develops unevenly, so readers seeking a decisive escape or tightly paced political thriller may find the detours frustrating.
