Synopsis

Ariel has lived for a thousand years and would prefer to continue her plans undisturbed. Prince Cedric’s arrival interrupts her long sleep, and her eventual decision to send him away seems to close that chapter. Ten years later, he returns as emperor with a very different response to rejection: he burns her forest and demands marriage. Ariel must face the adult he has become and the obsession that has grown during their separation.

Story profile
★ My Take

Cedric’s angelic appearance against his alarming possessiveness is the contrast most enthusiastically embraced in yandere-reader discussion. That makes the series an easy fit for a particular taste, while Ariel’s resistance keeps the pursuit from feeling entirely effortless. The same behavior sharply limits its broader romantic appeal: the attraction depends on enjoying coercive fantasy and a former caretaker dynamic, not on finding the relationship reassuring.

✓ Why you'd like it

The appeal lies in the friction between Ariel’s long view of life and Cedric’s urgent determination to occupy it. His imperial authority cannot make her emotionally available, so the central pursuit keeps returning to a woman who expected their relationship to belong to the past.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

Ariel knew Cedric as a child before the adult romance, and his pursuit includes threats and destruction. Readers uncomfortable with former guardian relationships or controlling behavior may find the power imbalance distracting regardless of the character designs or lighter comic moments.
