Synopsis

Lucy Fuji has an extraordinary sense of taste and smell, and the meals at restaurant Dimanche once carried a flavor inseparable from memories of her late grandmother. When that taste suddenly disappears, she learns that the kitchen staff has changed. A chance encounter with former Dimanche chefs Graham and Aiden begins a search for the scattered team and the unknown cook responsible for Lucy's treasured dish. Each reunion uncovers another relationship, regret, or career wound. What starts as a culinary mystery becomes a story about mourning, chosen family, and the ways people communicate care through food when direct words are difficult.

Story profile
★ My Take

Gourmet Hound is generous toward its characters without pretending kindness makes life uncomplicated. Lucy's search provides structure, but every former chef receives a reason for leaving and a life that continued beyond her favorite meal. Food functions as memory, craft, livelihood, and love language, making the restaurant mystery emotionally richer than a hunt for one recipe. Graham's prickliness and Lucy's openness create a gradual bond that never overwhelms the ensemble. Leehama's rounded art emphasizes expression and makes meals inviting without photorealism. The series is deliberately gentle, yet it addresses grief, family pressure, identity, and difficult relationships with care. Its lack of a conventional villain may feel low-stakes to readers who need sharper conflict, and the large cast can slow the central search. For patient readers, that spaciousness is the point: healing happens through repeated meals, honest apologies, and communities that allow people to change.

✓ Why you'd like it

This is comfort reading with real emotional substance. The food mystery keeps the narrative moving, while the diverse cast feels connected by work and care rather than coincidence. Lucy's grief is treated as something that changes shape instead of disappearing, and the romance develops naturally within friendship. Readers who want a complete story where conflict is resolved through communication, craft, and accountability will find the payoff deeply satisfying.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

The pace is slow and conversational, with few high-intensity twists. Readers looking primarily for romance may find the couple shares attention with many side characters and restaurant histories. Some arcs involve grief, unhealthy family expectations, and disordered relationships with food despite the warm tone. The art favors softness and clarity over elaborate rendering, which may not suit readers seeking glossy manhwa aesthetics.
