Synopsis

Anya Lockhart remembers at eight that she has been born as the heroine of a tragic romance novel. Knowing that an obsessive emperor awaits her, she runs away rather than accept his proposal. Years later, she finds a possible alternative in Dale, a kind mercenary in a remote southern village, and enters a contract marriage with him. His apparent innocence feels reassuring, but his resemblance to the novel’s male lead and his unexplained habits make her chosen escape increasingly uncertain.

Story profile
★ My Take

The contrast between Anya's confidence in her escape and the questions surrounding Dale gives the marriage its appeal. His gentle presentation makes the identity puzzle more inviting than an openly threatening courtship. Small inconsistencies encourage you to look past her assumptions, although the romance depends on accepting a gap between the safety she believes she has found and what she actually knows.

✓ Why you'd like it

Anya treats the novel’s romantic destiny as a problem to avoid, which makes her everyday married life quietly ironic. Small inconsistencies in Dale’s behavior invite you to read between the lines, especially if you enjoy recognizing danger before the heroine is ready to acknowledge it.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

The relationship depends on information Anya does not possess, which may frustrate readers who need informed trust between the leads. Tapas follows a five-episode cycle with a break afterward; its recurring scheduled pauses should not be mistaken for completion or an indefinite hiatus.
