Synopsis

Prince Alec's reputation for trouble becomes a survival problem when assassins begin pursuing him. Because magic is involved, ordinary protection is not enough. Victoria, known as the Witch of Bitter Cold, offers assistance in exchange for a favor. Her apparent lack of human emotion makes the arrangement difficult to read, and Alec tries to keep his distance. Remaining alive, however, requires staying close to the person whose intentions unsettle him most.

Story profile
★ My Take

The role reversal is the immediate pleasure: Alec needs protection, and Victoria has the confidence and power to provide it. Her bluntness makes his attempts at composure entertaining. Early reader enthusiasm centers on that contrast, which gives the romantic encounters energy. The surrounding mystery needs room to develop, so the opening is best approached for the dynamic rather than answers.

✓ Why you'd like it

Small shifts in Alec's confidence become part of the fun. Victoria's matter-of-fact behavior can turn what would usually be a grand romantic gesture into an awkwardly practical exchange, letting attraction build through reactions rather than elaborate declarations.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

Victoria's emotional distance may make it hard to read her investment early on. The assassination plot also means the couple's proximity begins under threat, so readers wanting uninterrupted romantic comedy should expect danger and withheld explanations.
