Synopsis

Krisha considers herself an expert on the irresistible archduke-of-the-north archetype and dreams of marrying one in real life. Her plans collapse when she discovers she is already married—to the emperor, no less—and he intends to divorce her. Divorce would mean ten years of exile from the mainland, ruining any chance of chasing her ideal northern duke. Krisha decides to fight the separation, only to discover that imperial marriage, hidden motives, and unexpected feelings are far more complicated than her romantic checklist.

Story profile
★ My Take

Divorcing the Emperor is at its best when Krisha's genre-savvy obsession with northern dukes crashes into the reality of her existing marriage. Her determination gives the palace comedy plenty of momentum, while the emperor's shifting behavior adds romantic tension. The plot is intentionally light and occasionally ridiculous, so it works better as rom-com than serious court drama. Readers who enjoy self-aware fantasy romance should have fun with it.

✓ Why you'd like it

Krisha enters the story with a hilariously specific romantic goal and discovers that being an empress is the biggest obstacle to achieving it. The clash between her idealized fantasy and the emperor she already has creates a playful, easy-to-binge relationship dynamic.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

The comedy depends on misunderstandings and exaggerated romantic logic. Readers wanting realistic politics or a heroine focused on power rather than love may find Krisha's priorities intentionally silly.
