Synopsis

After leading Pervaz through a brutal war, Asha Pervaz expects the emperor to reward her with desperately needed funds. Instead, he orders her to choose a husband from among the empire's nobles. Asha selects former crown prince Carlisle Haven, assuming he will refuse and pay compensation. To her surprise, Carlisle accepts and even offers to help rebuild Pervaz, pulling Asha into a political alliance that slowly becomes much more personal.

Story profile
★ My Take

The Age of Arrogance works because Asha and Carlisle both feel capable in different ways, so their marriage never becomes a simple rescue fantasy. Their mutual respect develops naturally through rebuilding, war politics, and shared responsibility. The romance is slow but rewarding, while Asha's blunt practicality gives the story a refreshing tone. Some court-intrigue stretches can feel denser than the relationship-focused chapters.

✓ Why you'd like it

Asha is already a respected military leader before romance enters her life, which lets the marriage grow from partnership rather than dependence. Carlisle's willingness to meet her as an equal makes their gradual trust especially satisfying.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

The story devotes substantial time to war recovery, succession politics, and governance. Readers looking for a romance-first plot may find the relationship progression slower than expected.
