Synopsis

College student Hanna has run out of money, hope, and practical options when Devil Number 4 offers everything she wants in exchange for her soul. The bargain should be routine, but Hanna refuses to sign away the one thing still entirely hers. Number 4's failure threatens his standing in the infernal corporate hierarchy, so he keeps her close by employing her at his café and searching for the desire that will finally break her resistance. Everyday contact complicates the transaction. Hanna begins to see the person behind the sales pitch, while the devil discovers that caring for a human may cost more than the soul he was ordered to collect.

Story profile
★ My Take

Devil Number 4 finds an appealing balance between absurd supernatural bureaucracy and genuine despair. Hanna's poverty is not a decorative inconvenience; it shapes how tempting the contract becomes and why her refusal matters. Number 4 begins as a polished salesman, but his growing confusion around compassion gives the romance its warmth. The café setting lets their relationship develop through work and routine instead of only dramatic rescues. woombeee's art is clean and expressive, particularly in the contrast between Number 4's controlled appearance and his increasingly human reactions. The mythology broadens into questions about souls, punishment, and choice, though late revelations can feel more complicated than the intimate opening needed. Some serious subjects, including suicidal despair, sit close to comedy and may create tonal whiplash. Even so, the completed story earns its emotional ending by treating love not as another contract but as the willingness to value another person without owning them.

✓ Why you'd like it

The devil-and-human premise delivers playful banter, visual charm, and a relationship built on changing moral assumptions. Hanna remains sympathetic without being idealized, and Number 4's professional crisis becomes a believable path toward empathy. Supporting devils add humor and conflict, while the completed run provides an actual resolution to the soul bargain. It is especially good for readers who want supernatural romance with emotional substance but not constant darkness.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

The early chapters engage directly with hopelessness and suicide, despite the bright art and comedy. Later supernatural rules and backstory can feel dense or abruptly introduced. Hanna's difficult circumstances may be stressful for readers seeking pure comfort, and the romance develops slowly around a relationship that begins as predatory sales pressure. Action is limited compared with the amount of dialogue and emotional reflection.
