Synopsis

Rei Chan considers herself the heroine of a perfect shoujo romance and has already chosen handsome classmate Hansum as her destined boyfriend. Her fantasy derails when popular Hanna announces that she is not competing for Hansum at all—she wants Rei. What follows is a school comedy full of exaggerated rivalries, impossible facial expressions, and mounting evidence that Rei's preferred genre script may be hiding the love story actually unfolding around her.

Story profile
★ My Take

Not So Shoujo Love Story commits completely to its ridiculous visual humor. Curryuku switches from polished romance panels to grotesque reaction faces in an instant, making even familiar school tropes feel unpredictable. Beneath the parody, Hanna's sincerity and Rei's slow emotional awakening give the series a surprisingly sweet center. The cast expands effectively, and the comedy often arises from personality rather than references alone. Its greatest strength is also a possible weakness: the romance advances very gradually because obliviousness and interruption power so many jokes. Long season structures can make emotional milestones feel distant, and some gags are proudly juvenile. For readers aligned with its energy, however, it is exuberant, affectionate, and distinct from almost every polished school romance beside it.

✓ Why you'd like it

The artwork can sell a sincere romantic beat and an outrageous meme-worthy expression on the same page. Hanna's direct affection contrasts wonderfully with Rei's commitment to the wrong romance narrative, while a lovable supporting cast keeps the school world lively. It is an easy recommendation for anyone wanting GL that is genuinely funny, not merely cute.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

The broad comedy includes crude jokes, exaggerated stupidity, and frequent detours, while the central romantic realization takes a long time. Readers who prefer restrained humor or rapid couple progression may find the repetition tiring. The current season structure also means the story is a substantial ongoing commitment.
