Synopsis

A boy awakens in a darkened building surrounded by bodies, unable to understand what has happened to Seoul. Outside, the city offers no electricity, stars, or reassuring signs of ordinary life. Searching for another survivor means navigating collapsed spaces and threats he cannot yet identify. Each discovery raises larger questions about the disaster, turning his immediate need for food and shelter into a desperate search for an explanation that might make survival possible.

Story profile
★ My Take

The dense black-and-white imagery makes the ruined city feel suffocating before its mysteries are explained. Small survival problems carry real dread because the characters understand so little about their surroundings. Later explanations expand the scope considerably, and the increasingly complicated structure can weaken the clean terror that makes the opening so memorable.

✓ Why you'd like it

Poor visibility becomes part of the reading experience rather than simply a background condition. You search panels for exits and dangers alongside the survivors, making ordinary movement feel uncertain and giving even a little light or human contact unusual emotional weight.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

The escalating mystery becomes much broader and more complicated than an urban survival scenario. Graphic bodies, extreme peril, and sustained hopelessness are prominent, while readers who prefer every revelation to simplify the story may find later developments difficult to follow.
