Synopsis

An office worker wakes as Everia Oberon, the doomed villainess of a romance novel, and decides the safest solution is to abandon the plot entirely. She retreats to a freezing northern territory where even the firewood refuses to burn properly. Desperate for heat, Everia summons the powerful archmage Theoharis for his supernatural flame—only to accidentally bind herself to a lifelong contract with a dangerous, handsome being who has no intention of quietly disappearing.

Story profile
★ My Take

The Villainess is Retiring works best when Everia treats fantasy problems with practical, almost lazy common sense. Her accidental contract with Theoharis brings plenty of playful tension, while the territory-management sections keep the series cozy rather than court-heavy. Their chemistry is entertaining without swallowing the entire story. The biggest drawback is the indefinite hiatus, which leaves the comic adaptation unfinished.

✓ Why you'd like it

Everia genuinely wants out of the original plot instead of conquering the society she escaped. Watching her build a comfortable life while accidentally acquiring an overwhelmingly powerful companion gives the series a relaxed, mischievous charm that suits readers looking for lower-stress villainess fantasy.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

The story is more domestic and territory-focused than revenge-driven, so readers expecting intense court politics may find it light. The comic is also on indefinite hiatus at 80 English episodes, although the official novel is complete.
