Synopsis

Duke Dreux of Faucigny is about to execute Nöel when a mysterious spell transforms his murderous hostility into extravagant devotion. The enchantment is unstable, switching him between a cold threat and the lovestruck man she calls Ru. A marriage meant to keep Nöel alive becomes emotionally complicated when the spell begins to weaken and she realizes her feelings are tied to both sides of the same wounded man.

Story profile
★ My Take

What's Wrong with You, Duke? uses extreme tonal contrast as both comedy and emotional conflict. Ru's theatrical affection is funny beside Dreux's icy severity, but Nöel eventually has to ask whether love created by magic can become a choice. The series becomes more layered as the duke's past and the curse's consequences emerge, giving later angst a foundation beyond simple misunderstanding. Eddie's expressive art handles slapstick, glamour, and melodrama with equal confidence. The long run occasionally repeats the push-pull dynamic, yet the leads experience substantial growth and the completed ending rewards readers who enjoy grand declarations followed by harder-earned trust.

✓ Why you'd like it

The central magical switch creates unusually bold romantic comedy, but the story does not stop at the joke. Nöel grows more decisive, and the duke's two presentations gradually reveal a coherent person capable of change. Readers who enjoy devoted male leads receive abundant affection alongside real emotional obstacles.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

The opening threat of execution and the duke's cold behavior make the relationship difficult before his growth becomes visible. The spell-driven personality changes can feel repetitive across a long series, and the romance embraces melodrama, misunderstandings, and sacrifice more than subtle realism.
