Synopsis

Princess Philomel discovers a mysterious book whose condemned impostor princess shares her name—and whose predictions are already coming true. Convinced that the real princess will return and that her father will execute her, the neglected child resolves to rewrite the future and prepare her escape.

Story profile
★ My Take

Philomel's fear feels unusually convincing because she is truly a child rather than an adult reincarnated into one. That gives the early survival strategy and parental neglect a sharp emotional force, while later found-family developments supply welcome warmth. The story broadens considerably after its strongest palace-escape material, which can make the middle feel less focused.

✓ Why you'd like it

Its greatest strength is the emotional honesty of a frightened but resourceful child trying to earn safety, followed by the catharsis of finding people who value her without demanding a performance.

⚠ What may not be for everyone

The neglect and fear of parental execution are heavy, the emperor's behavior can be infuriating, and later fantasy and romance threads may feel less distinctive than the opening family drama. The English comic is also currently on hiatus.
